When I was drafted into the military, I was stationed at the Tuzla Air
Base in Bosnia-Herzegovina with the 427 Division of the U.S. Army
Mechanized Forces. In March of 1996, I was sitting atop my Sherman tank
at the edge of the airstrip when First Lady Hillary Clinton's C-130
made a daring corkscrew landing at the airbase. When the doors to the
C-130 opened, sniper fire rang out and several bullits pinged off the
sides of the C-130. The military officers standing on top of the mobile
stairs scrambled out of harms way. Hillary Clinton threw her arm around
Chelsea and ran down the staircase. When they hit the tarmac, all of
the visiting dignatories had either fled or were lying on the ground
with their hands over their heads. I heard Mrs. Clinton yell
"Serpentine" and she and Chelsea ran in a S-shaped path towards the
waiting jeeps, puffs of smoke from the sniper shots leaping up from the
tarmac around her. When they arrived at the jeeps, about 100 yards from
the C-130, she threw Chelsea down on the floor in the back of the jeep
and pushed the U.S Army Ranger aside into the passenger seat. I fired
my 50 caliber machine gun in the direction of the snipers.
Mrs. Clinton drove the jeep serpentine style across the tarmac taking
Chelsea and the Ranger to safety. Then Mrs. Clinton called out to one
of the snipers who was cornered in a maintenance building. She spoke to
him in his native Herzegovian tongue. She told him to come out and
surrender. He came forward and dropped to his knees in front of Mrs.
Clinton. When she put her hand on his shoulder, he seemed to shudder,
and placed his AK-47 on the ground at her feet. She ordered him to
stand and walked with him where he surrendered to the U.S.Army military
police.
The video footage you saw on TV and YouTube happened an hour later
after order had been restored and security at the airbase checked. I
was there and this is what happened.
